I am searching for 8 track tapes on the Spar label. Many times they are sound-a-likes of current hits with made-up names like The Now Generation, Nashville Country Jamboree, etc. If you do not have any tapes maybe you have run across a catalog or sale list lists releases.

"Spar" was a truck stop brand popular in the 1960s through early '70s.
What they did was take "cover bands" (usually found in bars and honky
tonks) and had them "cover" big hits of other, better artists.

These truck stop carts are very rare today, as the musical content was
usually marginal at best, and the quality of the recordings were even
worse, usually.

I believe Spar (and many other fly-by-night labels servicing truck
stops were shut down due to copyright violations in the '70s. I have
run across them, and they're usually pretty awful!

I have a few Spar 8-Track's myself. I recently scored one via a seller in a Facebook group alongside several others, with three of them still sealed. That recent score is in mint condition and is in it's original slipcase. I have a few others that I scored many years ago in the late 1990's in a case full of 8-Tracks that were mostly country music. At the moment, I am not interested in selling them, but if I ever change my mind, I will let you know, Mr. Urbahns.

Spar Andy. Spar was another one of those pirated 8-Track labels that were sold at truck stops and, at times, flea markets. They usually featured covers bands doing sound alike recordings of hits of the day. I recently scored one from a guy in Oklahoma where I bought a whole bunch of tapes from. Depending on what player you played them on, they usually didn't sound very good. The company wasn't around for very long. There was also competition from other pirated 8-Track tape labels, with most of them compiling multiple songs from various artists onto one tape or songs from the same artist onto one tape. I remember at gas stations and convenience stores, when someone bought two packs of a few particular brands of cigarettes, such as Kool, Salem, Winston, Bel-Air or Raleigh, they would get a free pirated 8-Track with the purchase of them. I don't know how the tobacco companies got away with that, but they did.

You're possibly joking with the Charlie "Noodles" Nudo reference in regards to Spar, but Spar was actually located in Nashville Tennessee during the time that they were in business. Though they did mostly country music themed 8-Track tapes, they actually released tapes in a variety of music styles. As I said, they weren't in business very long as competition from other music pirates began taking over the free way of music. The sound of the tapes from the competing music pirates varied. Sometimes, they would record records onto tape and sell them. I have a pirated tape of Willie Nelson called Gold 'Til Now, which features some of his hit covers that were taped from records. They also copied from other 8-Track's as well using a duplicator. Spar simply used it's own musicians to record tracks and have singers with freaky voices that can sound like a particular performer. The money that people paid when they purchased their tapes went to pay their musicians and singers, while they kept some of the money to themselves. Plus, they even stated on their tapes "All fees and royalties paid", which were mostly token payments to music publishers to maintain a semblance of legitimacy.

Music piracy was around way before the internet and still continues to flourish to this day. Bootlegging became a thing when they released the infamous Bob Dylan demos bootleg "Great White Wonder", which I happen to have in my ever growing vinyl collection, and even to this day, bootlegging flourishes. It will continue to flourish as long as people buy bootleg records and CD's to add to their music collection.

You may have made a very valid point there regarding Charlie "Noodles" Nudo, Andy. It's a wonder how he is still on Ebay after all of this time. I just checked him out on Ebay and again, he is selling stuff that you could buy at a junkyard, junk-shop, antique store and flea markets for cheap prices at ridiculously high prices with free shipping. With many sellers, free shipping is a convenience, but with "Noodles", you're paying for the shipping along with the high prices that he sells his stuff for. As I said, I guess that since he has no more 8-Track's or any of those graphite robbing foam pads to sell, he is now selling this stuff. I still buy on Ebay when I can and I also buy from other online selling sites as well.

My most recent addition to my 8-Track collection is Merle Haggard's Mama Tried album. It is still in wonderful shape and it has new pads and splice. I played it when I got it in the mail and it sounds great. Aside from this one, I also have The Best of the Best of Merle Haggard and Merle Haggard Presents His 30th Album on 8-Track, which are both RCA Music Service tapes, while the Mama Tried is an authentic Capitol Records tape.

iam looking at a deal with kate at the track shack to sell or trade my sony
pro model 8 track tape corder it both plays and records.
got it with very low use from a radio station it was the back up unit.

I know. The things that he sells now can be bought for much cheaper at an auto scrap yard, junk-shop, flea markets and antique stores for much cheaper prices. Like DesertBob said in his own way years ago, "He is an all around scam artist and con man."

Yeah, ain't it the truth? I even checked them out myself and like Frank said, all of the stuff that this loser "Noodles" is selling are stuff that you can get cheaper at the places that Frank said. That metal beer serving tray, for example, I have seen these selling at flea markets for only $3.00-$5.00 depending on condition. Then again, these types of things have only a sentimental value. Heck, even the classic VW Bug speedometer he's selling, you can actually get at some junkyards for about $15.00-$20.00 or less. Plus, it doesn't matter what type of car it may be for, the prices at the junkyards stay the same almost. I know this because I have friends who work in junkyards and when I talked with one of them about a certain Ebay seller selling one for $49.00, he said that this was too much to be selling that for and they had speedometers in the shed for the prices that I mentioned above. It's a good thing that there are educated consumers out there who know this stuff, but then again, "Noodles" prides on the ignorance that many people have and that's what keeps him selling this stuff for those ridiculously high prices.

That simply shows how much of a con man and a swindler that he really is. In all that he sells, his policy is "No Refunds". Again, it just shows that he is simply your typical con man and swindler, or as Frank said when he quoted DesertBob, a scam artist. To top that off, he is also a typical all around loser. Oh well.
